BAHAY KUBO Center for Philippine Culture and Arts is a nonprofit organization that was established in 2005 by friends and alumni of the University of the Philippines.

Its vision is to promote pride in and appreciation of Philippine history, culture, language, arts and heritage among Filipino and Filipino-American families in the San Fernando Valley and Greater Los Angeles area through

  • building and fostering unity and camaraderie among Filipinos
  • promoting and advancing Philippine culture
  • enhancing knowledge and use of the Philippine language, and
  • developing educational programs, seminars, workshops, community events and other outreach projects.

Parents

At Bahay Kubo, parent involvement is valued, if not essential. Children will benefit fully from Bahay Kubo’s curriculum when parents participate in the education process by reading and reviewing lessons and handouts with them, and reinforcing Filipino language lessons through everyday conversation at home.

Faculty

The teachers at Bahay Kubo are well qualified, experienced and very talented. The staff is headed by Anna Alegre and Annette Africano Christiansen -- both products of the premier state university in the Philippines as well as Ninette Umali-Tenza, a former scholar of the National Arts Center in Mt. Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna.

Community

Through Bahay Kubo’s vision, the organization hopes to build a more socially active, caring & responsible community.
