A Dialogue (English to Tagalog Translations – A more elaborate explanation is below)

Peter: Where are you from? (Taga-saan ka?)

Maria: I am from the Philippines. (Taga Pilipinas po ako.)

Peter: Where in the Philippines are you from? (Saan ka sa Pilipinas?)

Maria: Mindanao.

Peter: Where in Mindanao? (Saan sa Mindanao?)

Maria: General Santos City. (Sa General Santos City po.)

Peter: How far is it from Manila? (Gaano kalayo sa Maynila?)

Maria: Far, you need to take an airplane or a ship to reach our place. (Malayo po, kailangan mong sumakay ng eroplano o barko para makapunta ka sa lugar namin.)

Peter: Is that so? (Ganoon / Ganun ba?)

Maria: What do you know about the Philippines? (Ano po ang alam niyo tungkol sa Pilipinas?)

Peter: A little bit. (Kaunti / Konti lang.)

Maria: Do you know that the Philippines has 7,107 islands. (Alam niyo po ba na ang Pilipinas ay may 7,107 (pitong libo’t isang daang at pitong isla)).

Peter: Really! (Talaga!)

Maria: The Philippines is just small and we are surrounded by water. (Ang Pilipinas ay maliit lamang at napapaligiran kami ng tubig.)

Peter: Interesting! (Nakakawili!)

Maria: Life in the countryside or province is different from life in Manila. (Ang buhay sa probinsiya (countryside) ay iba sa buhay sa Maynila.)

Maria: Manila is the center for commercialism. (Ang Maynila po ang sentro ng komersiyalismo.)

Maria: In our province, we have lesser population and there are many beaches and farms to visit. (Sa aming probinsiya po, mas kaunti ang mga tao at maraming tabing dagat at bukid na puwedeng puntahan.)

Peter: What is the best possible transportation to see those places? (Ano ang pinakamainam na puwedeng sakyan para mapuntahan mo iyong mga lugar?)

Maria: There are jeepneys, tricycles, cars that can be rented. If you you know someone, they will be happy to take you around. (May mga dyip, tricycle o kotse na puwedeng rentahan. Kung may kilala ka, ikagagalak nilang maipasyal ka.)

Peter: Pretty fun! (Ang saya!)

Maria: Sure! (Tama po!)

Peter: Where will I stay? Is there a hotel there? (Saan ako puwedeng maglalagi? Meron bang hotel doon?)

Maria: Yes, there are some and some are within the beaches. (Opo, mayroon at ang iba ay mismo sa tabing dagat.)

Peter: Is there a place close to buy foods? (Mayroon bang mabibilihan ng makakain na malapit?)

Maria: There are many fresh fruits and vegetables around the province. (Mayroon at maraming presko na prutas at gulay sa probinsiya.)

Peter: Ok, I will go around Manila when I go to the Philippines but I would like to visit the provinces also. (Sige lilibutin ko ang Maynila pag pumunta ako sa Pilipinas pero gusto ko ring bisitahin ang mga probinsiya nito.)

Maria: That’s a good plan. (Magandang plano po iyan.)

Peter: I hope you will be there when I visit. (Sana nandoon ka pag bumisita ako.)

Maria: It is possible! (Maaari po!)

Peter: Thanks for the information. (Salamat sa impormasyon.)

Maria: You’re welcome. (Walang anuman po.)

The Same Dialogue As Above (A more elaborate explanation/approach.)

Peter: Taga-saan ka? (Where are you from?)

The word “taga” above is used for interrogation. It refers to a place – “where” and “place where you live”.

More examples:

Taga-saan ba ang kasintahan mo? (Where is your boyfriend/girlfriend from?)

Taga-saan ang kaibigan mo? (Where is your friend from?)

Eliminate the word “taga”

Saan ka nakatira? (Where do you live?)

Saan nakatira ang kasintahan mo? (Where does your boyfriend/girlfriend live?)

Saan nakatira ang kaibigan mo? (Where does your friend live?)

Maria: Taga Pilipinas po (optional) ako. (I am from the Philippines.)

The word “po” in any statement is optional. It emphasizes respect to the person you are talking with.

The word “taga” can also be used as a prefix in reference to a place for declarative statements.

More Examples:

Taga-Norte ako. (I am from the North.)

Tagarito ako. (I am from here.) The word “here” is an adverb but because of the word Taga it becomes noun in Tagalog.

Taga General Santos City ako. (I am from General Santos City.)

Peter: Saan ka sa Pilipinas? (Where in the Philippines are you from?)

Aim: This lesson aims to give you Tagalog translations on naming people with Nouns. Letter T or = will be used to indicate Tagalog translations.

People, animals, places, and things need names. A term for an idea, be it real, workable idea or a fantasy is a noun. The part of speech that names them is a NOUN.
